Osechi, or traditional Japanese New Year's dish is served with a huge array of ingredients in a decorative wooden box. The box is packed with colorful appetizers and entre that feast one's eyes. Single (usually the mother) or several members of a household spend days preparing the annual celebratory dish. An entire family celebrates new year starting the new year's eve through the 5th day of January.
