Loco Moco, a beloved Hawaiian comfort food was invented as a sandwich substitute only decades ago in 1949. A hungry teenager active in sports wanted something hearty and satisfying rather than ordinary sandwiches. The power eater asked her mom to make him a bowl of rice with a hamburger patty on top with gravy. The Loco Moco was born. The recipe soon evolved with an added egg.
