Kiyosumi Teien garden was originally the residence of an Edo era merchant. A feudal lord gained ownership of the site and turned it into a beautiful garden. The founder of Mitsubishi bought the garden during the Meiji Period to entertain his guests. In 1932, the property was donated to the city of Tokyo and opened the garden to the public.
