When the Husband Makes Sushi…

Late last night my husband held my hands and looked at me. “I want you to take the weekend off and just relax” he said gently. I am the one who is always “holding down the fort”. Or in other words, I am multi-tasking between playing with my daughter, throwing in a load of laundry, and planning our next meal. I live for it and love it so very much. Most of the time I am just fine and run through my day like clockwork. But every now and then I’ll have a rough night of sleep, or a stressful day and my body begins to wear down a little. It’s those times that my husband jumps in and helps pull it all back together again. “I want to pamper you a bit” he said, and I happily agreed. After an afternoon nap, he set about to make the family a delicious lunch. My husband is Asian, (Filipino to be exact), so cooking with Asian flavors and lots of spices is something that just comes natural to him. Now normally I do almost all of the cooking, but today showed me that when a man is determined to make a beautiful meal, wow can he pull it off!

Here’s what was cooking in our kitchen today…

First there was a BBQ shrimp roll that included: BBQ shrimp, a thin slice of cooked spam, avocado, pickled yellow radish, diced carrot, and a sprinkling of nori komi furikake.

Sushi3

Next, he made a beautiful flower roll that consisted of: imitation crab, cream cheese, avocado, and yellow pickled radish and sprinkled with ancho chili powder.

Sushi2

Finally he made his own “caterpillar roll” which included: Shrimp, grilled spam, avocado, yellow pickled radish, cream cheese, and carrot.

Sushi1

Honey you did an amazing job <3 ! Being pampered today was such a beautiful surprise. I can’t wait to spoil you rotten tomorrow. I hope these pictures gives you all inspiration to make your own sushi rolls! Grab whatever veggies, and protein that you have in hand and get rolling! Have a beautiful night everyone <3
